Roller mills are fairly easy to power and they crack the grain leaving the husks much more intact compared to the shredding action of the Corona and Victoria style mills. Using a standard 2roller homebrew mill, I crushed each malt using four different gap settings. The gap settings were mm, mm, mm and mm, and I used a feeler gauge to confirm these gap setting between each milling. Hey all! I have a Northern Brewer Hullwrecker. I've had this since December 2020 and have brewed quite a bit with this. At first it worked great! Then about 9 months in or so it quit grabbing the grains. I found the "How to clean the grain mill" post in these forums and that fixed the issue.

What a Grain Mill Does. What you want the grain mill to do is remove the husk and break the kernel (the endosperm) into just enough pieces to extract all the sugar. Of course, there is a tradeoff. The finer you crush the kernel, the better the extraction and efficiency. But the finer you crush the kernel, the more "flour" you get as well.

At least 60+ inLb torque at whatever your speed, but 175 RPM is a sweet spot. Mine is a 1725 RPM 1/3 HP that gives me 100 inLb torque at 172 RPM with aid of a 10:1 ratio gearbox (reducer).
